Daniel Craig did not want to shake or stir any fans' religious or political beliefs with the new James Bond film, insisting that suicide bombers should not be used as bad guys.

The actor, who has been voted by some fans as being the sexiest 007 since Sean Connery, did not want religion or politics to be a motivation for the crooks.

"Every terrorist in this movie is non-political," Craig told Premiere magazine.

"I said, we can't have [suicide bombers] in this movie because the connotations of a suicide bomber are something that lie within religion and politics."

Instead, the villains are motivated by financial gain.

"We have to make sure that all of the guys that are setting bombs and trying to hurt people are basically walking away with a suitcase of cash," the first blonde Bond said.

Craig, who has been angered by some alterations to the Bond franchise such as changing Bond's drink of choice from a martini to beer, says that director Steven Spielberg helped him decide to take on the role.

"You know the kind of films I do, Steven, they're not, you know, this," he said to Spielberg, who directed Craig in Munich.

The famous E.T. director is reported to have told Craig to go for it if the script and money were right.End of story

James Bond’ is shy of suicide bombers

London, Oct 29: Although new James bond actor Daniel Craig battles machete-wielding terrorists-one of whom is modelled on the leaders of the treacherous Ugandan child-snatchers, The Lord`s Resistance Army, he has assured fans that ‘Casino Royale’ is not politically or religiously charged.

In a recent interview with US magazine, Premiere, Craig insists that he vetoed the producer’s plans to include a suicide bombing. He told the studio executives that he did not want the movie’s terrorists to be political or religious.

“Every terrorist in this movie is non-political. I said, we can`t have that (suicide bombers) in this movie because the connotations of a suicide bomber are something that lie within religion and politics. We have to make sure that all of the guys that are setting bombs and trying to hurt people are basically walking away with a suitcase of cash,” Premier magazine quoted him as saying.

The 38-year-old actor also revealed that he asked his ‘Munich’ director pal Steven Spielberg for his advice when he was offered the Bond role.

`You know the kind of films I do, Steven, they`re not, you know, this.` He just said, `If the script`s right and if the deal`s right, do the job.` Things like that give you a spur to go on. I asked him straight out, I said, `Should I do it?` And he went and said, `Of course, you fucking should,` he said.
